A British man is facing up to 20 years in prison after an altercation aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship led to a woman sustaining an injury. The incident occurred on the Harmony of the Seas during a voyage that departed from Port Canaveral, Florida on August 18, 2025.

David Gibbon, 32, of Surrey, England, was arrested by the FBI upon the ship’s return to Port Canaveral on August 25, 2025. He has been charged with assault with a hazardous weapon, specifically accused of striking Christina Wyld, 26, of London, in the chest.

According to court documents, the altercation stemmed from a disagreement between Gibbon and Wyld. The prosecution alleges that Gibbon became enraged during a verbal dispute and physically assaulted Wyld, causing a scratch to her chest. The incident took place near the ship’s casino on the evening of August 22nd.

“Becuase Mr. Gibbon couldn’t control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated,” stated a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Florida.

If convicted on all charges, Gibbon could face a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. He is currently being held at the Brevard County Jail Complex awaiting trial. The FBI is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Port Canaveral Police Department.
