PS Plus August Lineup: Is *Lies of P* Enough?
Soulslike leads a mixed bag of monthly offerings.
PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers are getting their August games, and while the lineup boasts a critically acclaimed title, the overall reception appears divided.
Soulslike Sensation Headlines the Month
The standout offering for August is undoubtedly *Lies of P*, the highly regarded Soulslike action RPG that first graced PS5 in 2023. Drawing clear inspiration from titles like *Bloodborne*, this challenging game promises intense boss encounters and a richly atmospheric, albeit unsettling, world.
Mixed Reception for Supporting Titles
Joining *Lies of P* is *DayZ*, the zombie survival simulation. Despite improvements since its troubled 2019 PS4 debut, its legacy of performance issues and bugs makes it a tough sell in 2025, especially with numerous superior survival and co-op alternatives available.
The anime-themed arena fighter, *My Hero One’s Justice 2*, based on the popular manga and anime, lands with middling reviews. While it features vibrant characters and flashy attack animations, its combat mechanics are described as rather uninspired.
Player Polls Reveal Divided Opinions
Recent player polls indicate a split in subscriber satisfaction. When asked about their happiness with the August offerings, a significant portion expressed dissatisfaction, with 37.1% stating the games could be better or were a “crap selection.” Nearly a quarter of respondents (23.9%) felt the selection was poor.
However, *Lies of P*’s popularity is undeniable. In a separate poll, the game garnered over half the votes (52.4%) as the most anticipated title among the August PS Plus Essential games. This contrasts sharply with *DayZ*’s 6.8% and *My Hero One’s Justice 2*’s mere 1.4%.
The PlayStation Plus Essential service has been on a solid trajectory for much of 2025, but this month’s lineup highlights the challenge of consistently delivering titles that please a broad audience. For instance, PlayStation’s recent quarterly earnings report showed a 12% increase in PlayStation Plus subscriber revenue year-over-year for Q1 2025, indicating continued growth despite varied monthly game quality (Sony Investor Relations).
