Google and qualcomm Hint at Android‘s Expansion to PCs, Promising Unified Ecosystem
Qualcomm CEO cristiano Amon revealed he’s previewed a forthcoming version of Android designed for PCs, calling it “unbelievable” and expressing eagerness for its release. the proclamation, made during the opening keynote of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, signals a notable step toward merging the Android and ChromeOS ecosystems and extending Android’s reach beyond mobile devices.
Speaking alongside Google’s head of platforms and devices, Rick osterloh, amon’s comments confirm ongoing efforts to create a unified technical foundation for Google’s products across PCs and mobile.Osterloh stated the companies have “embarked on a project to combine” previously distinct PC and smartphone systems. Google intends to integrate its Gemini AI model, the complete Android AI stack, and its application and developer community into the PC habitat, aiming to serve users across all computing categories.
The collaboration builds on a long-standing partnership between Google and Qualcomm, highlighted today with the anticipated unveiling of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. Amon emphasized the potential for convergence between mobile and PC experiences, a vision he believes this new Android iteration fully realizes. “It delivers on the vision of convergence of mobile and PC,” he said.
Osterloh further explained the initiative, stating,”We are building together a common technical foundation for our products on PCs and desktop computing systems.” The move suggests a potential shift in Google’s strategy, perhaps streamlining growth and offering a more consistent user experience across devices.
