Alabama Basketball to Get $59 Million Coleman Coliseum Upgrades

August 11, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

The University of Alabama athletic department announced a $59 million renovation of Coleman Coliseum, featuring a new 49,000-square-foot attached building and 19,000 square feet of interior upgrades, as reported by The Crimson White. Set to become functional in 2026, the project follows the men’s basketball program’s first-ever Final Four appearance and aims to expand training and player development for both men’s and women’s basketball programs.

Funding and Financial Architecture

According to Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne, speaking to the UA System board of trustees, the $59 million capital expenditure relies on a multi-stream funding model. The majority of the capital comes from future general revenue bonds, supplemented by allocations from the Crimson Standard Cash fund and a minor portion drawn from the university’s central reserves.

Facility Scope and Architectural Layout

The expansion targets the existing footprint in the southeast corner of Coleman Coliseum. The initiative delivers dedicated spaces designed to streamline periodization, tactical walk-throughs, and strength conditioning. Men’s basketball head coach Nate Oats and women’s basketball head coach Kristy Curry both support the project, identifying the upgraded footprint as a primary departmental priority. Byrne stated that the new layout provides the optimal environment for player development, featuring:
