The Indonesian Embassy in Tehran has issued a warning to its citizens in Iran, urging increased vigilance following recent military strikes by the United States and Israel. The embassy’s advisory, delivered via Instagram on Saturday, called on Indonesians to remain calm and grab immediate steps to ensure the safety of themselves and their families, according to reports from Antara news agency.
The strikes, which targeted locations in Tehran and other Iranian cities on Saturday, February 28, represent the second such operation authorized under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump. A similar action occurred in June 2025. Trump stated that the military operations were intended to protect American interests by eliminating the perceived threat from Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons development program. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) affirmed the action, stating via X, formerly known as Twitter, that “The Iranian regime was warned. CENTCOM is now delivering swift and decisive action as directed.”
The Indonesian Embassy is actively maintaining communication with its citizens throughout Iran, requesting updates on the security situation in their respective areas and emphasizing the importance of adhering to directives issued by local authorities. A consular assistance hotline, +989024668889, has been established for emergencies. The embassy stated it will continue intensive communication with Indonesian nationals to monitor developments and formulate appropriate responses based on evolving conditions.
As of Saturday, February 28, the embassy had received reports from at least 329 Indonesian citizens in Iran, according to Indonesian Ambassador to Iran, Rolliansyah Soemirat. Soemirat emphasized the importance of two-way communication to assess the needs of Indonesian citizens and provide necessary assistance and protection. Initial reports indicated that, as of 2:30 PM local time in Iran, Indonesian citizens contacted across various cities had not experienced any direct threats.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta continues to monitor the security situation closely. Spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang urged Indonesian citizens in Iran to remain calm, increase vigilance, follow local instructions, and maintain contact with the Indonesian Embassy. Additional emergency contact numbers are available through the Ministry’s Directorate for the Protection of Indonesian Citizens at +62 812-9007-0027.
The attacks followed three rounds of indirect talks between Washington and Tehran, mediated by Oman, concerning Iran’s nuclear program. The discussions, held in Muscat and Geneva earlier in February, focused on limiting Iran’s uranium enrichment levels and stockpiles in exchange for sanctions relief. The most recent round took place on February 26, just days before the military strikes, as regional security conditions deteriorated.
The Iranian Embassy in Jakarta condemned the U.S.-Israel attacks as aggressive and criminal behavior violating Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, describing the actions as a serious threat to regional and international peace and security. The embassy expressed hope for strong condemnation from the Indonesian government and people.
