MAFS NZ’s Jamie: Epiphany, Eliot Romance & Future Plans Revealed

Jamie Marinos, a breakout star from the 2025 season of Married At First Sight Australia, says she is “actually glad” her televised marriage to Dave Hand didn’t operate out, finding clarity in the realization that “you can’t teach someone how to love you.” Marinos shared her reflections in a recent interview, detailing a period of self-discovery following the show’s conclusion.

Marinos, who gained nearly 200,000 Instagram followers during her time on the program, explained that her initial hope for a husband evolved into a valuable lesson about self-worth. “When I interviewed initially with Daddy John [Aiken, the MAFS relationships expert], I said, ‘I want a husband and if that doesn’t work out, I want to learn something.’ Well, I learnt you can’t teach someone how to love you. If you’re asking for someone to meet your basic needs to prove your worth, it’s not right. When you’re choosing someone who’s not choosing you, it’s taxing on your self-worth,” she stated.

Following the show’s reunion, Marinos found a connection with fellow MAFS groom Eliot Donovan, who briefly left his original bride, Lauren Hall, before re-entering the experiment with Veronica Cloherty. She described Donovan as a “safe space,” noting their shared experience navigating the pressures of the reality television format. “Eliot became my safe space. We had so much in common from being on the show – I formed a trauma bond with the other cast members,” Marinos said.

While acknowledging a romantic exploration with Donovan, Marinos confirmed they are no longer together. “We did explore the potential of a romantic relationship and, yes, we played doctors and nurses! We had fun, but we love very differently and we’re both self-aware enough to admit it wasn’t meant to be. But I’ll always think highly of Eliot,” she explained.

Prior to appearing on Married At First Sight, Marinos had already left her corporate job, a decision that coincided with the show’s offer. “Two days before my last day at work, MAFS called and said they had a husband for me, so that was awesome,” she recounted.

The experience has propelled Marinos towards a career shift, sparking a newfound passion for being in front of the camera. “It made me realise I love being in front of the camera, connecting with people and making them laugh. I’ve done a few presenting gigs and I just love it!” she said. She expressed interest in joining the show’s experts, including John Aiken, to provide commentary on the program’s dynamics, stating, “I love analysing people.”

Marinos currently works as a supervisor at a nightclub on weekends, but does not have immediate plans to launch her own business, playfully stating, “I am the business.” She emphasized that her participation in the show was driven by a genuine desire for a relationship, not as a platform for self-promotion. “I wasn’t on the show as a launchpad – I was looking for my husband. I gave the experiment a fair go. I cried real tears. Whatever happens afterwards, you may as well make lemonade out of lemons.”

Marinos also offered positive remarks about fellow bride Jacqui Burfoot, who is planning to marry groom Clint Rice. “I’m happy for Jac,” she insisted. “I was shocked when they got engaged, but she got what everyone wanted – a real relationship – so solid on her!”

Marinos acknowledged that the show brought underlying insecurities to the surface, even during her connection with Donovan. “Even when exploring things with Eliot, there was past trauma coming up. I knew Eliot was going to have to pay for Dave’s mistakes. I’ve got to work on that! I’m a ChatGPT therapy kind of girl – I’ll dump my feelings there and work through them.” Despite these challenges, she remains optimistic about finding love in the future, expressing a desire for children and playfully suggesting she might need to “let my body do the talking” if her Greek language skills prove insufficient.
