Klopp Considered for Mainz Coaching Role After Henriksen Exit
MAINZ, GERMANY – Jürgen Klopp, currently serving as global director of football for the Red Bull Group, has been identified as a potential candidate to replace recently departed Mainz coach Bo Henriksen, according to German publication Bild.
Klopp concluded his tenure as Liverpool manager in the summer of 2024 and transitioned to a leadership position within the Red Bull organization. Though, his name remains in circulation amongst clubs seeking a new manager.
Bild‘s report comes in the wake of Bo Henriksen’s departure from Mainz. Klopp previously managed Mainz from 2001 to 2008, before moving to Borussia Dortmund and afterward Liverpool.
The German newspaper describes Klopp as a “dream solution” for Mainz, citing his strong existing relationship with Mainz sporting director Christian Heidel. Despite this, Bild acknowledges that a return to Mainz is “basically unthinkable” for Klopp, even on a temporary basis.
Other candidates reportedly under consideration by Mainz include Dane Bo Svensson and Urs Fischer, with Fischer currently considered the frontrunner.
