US Offered Maduro Safe⁤ Passage to Russia, Senator Reveals After Trump Phone call

Amid escalating tensions between the US and‌ venezuela, a ⁢US Senator has revealed that the US ‍government offered Venezuelan President ‌Nicolás maduro the possibility to leave the country. Republican Senator markwayne Mullin told CNN that Washington suggested Maduro could relocate to Russia or another nation. ‍This disclosure follows a recent phone call between President Donald Trump and Maduro.

The offer of exile comes as the US has increased its⁤ military presence in the Caribbean, ⁢deploying warships including a large aircraft carrier, ostensibly ‌to combat drug trafficking. However, Maduro ⁤suspects the US intends to overthrow his government. Senator ‌Mullin ⁢stated that a military intervention is not planned, ⁤clarifying ⁣that Washington’s actions are focused‍ on protecting US shores.

Trump confirmed the phone conversation with Maduro, but offered little detail when questioned by ⁢reporters aboard Air ‌Force One. He described the call ‌as simply “a⁤ phone call,” declining to comment on reports suggesting discussions about a potential meeting or amnesty for Maduro.

The US has been actively intercepting vessels suspected of drug smuggling in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific as september, claiming to have neutralized over ⁣20 ships and resulting in at least 83 fatalities. ‌Trump announced plans to expand these efforts to land-based operations against suspected Venezuelan drug ⁢traffickers, stating action would begin “very soon.”

Venezuela,in response to the escalating situation, has appealed to the Association of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)⁤ for assistance. In a⁢ letter to the organization, ⁤Maduro accused Washington of attempting to seize Venezuela’s significant oil ⁢reserves⁣ through military force.
