East Peoria junior quinton Kitt committed to the University of Illinois Fighting Illini basketball program on Thursday,choosing to stay in-state for his collegiate career. The all-state guard/forward announced his decision via social media, selecting Illinois over offers from Bradley, Michigan, Iowa, Butler, DePaul, Toledo, Northwestern and Illinois State.
Kitt’s commitment marks a significant early win for the Illini’s recruiting efforts in the class of 2027, adding a top prospect to a program currently ranked No. 13 nationally. For East peoria, it continues a period of success following their first 20-win season since 1997.
During his sophomore season, the 6-foot-6 Kitt averaged 23.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. He was recognized as a Journal Star Class 3A all-area selection, as well as earning all-Mid-Illini Conference first team and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association all-state third team honors.
Kitt is ranked as the no. 2 prospect in illinois and a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com. He had also taken unofficial visits to Ohio State, Notre Dame and Indiana before making his decision.
Illinois is scheduled to face fifth-ranked UConn at Madison Square Garden on Friday. East Peoria will open its 2025-26 basketball season against Rockford Jefferson at the Pekin thanksgiving Tournament.
