Apple Delays OLED iPad mini Launch to Late 2026
Apple’s anticipated transition to OLED displays for the iPad mini has been pushed back to late 2026,according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The delay impacts Apple’s plans to substantially enhance the mini’s visual performance with improved contrast adn deeper black levels-benefits inherent to OLED technology. This postponement also affects the introduction of new speaker technology designed to eliminate visible speaker openings, potentially improving water resistance.
The shift to OLED for the iPad mini represents a substantial upgrade for the compact tablet, positioning it to compete more effectively with other premium small-form-factor devices. Gurman reports the new speaker system would utilize vibration to produce sound, removing the need for traditional speaker grilles and offering a more seamless design while bolstering protection against liquid ingress-a feature currently achieved through seals and adhesives in iPhones. Though, the OLED upgrade is expected to increase the iPad mini’s price point.
