Bus Driver Faces Examination After Incident at Bogotá’s Salitre Terminal

Bogotá, Colombia – A bus operated by Transportes Morichal was immobilized by Bogotá Traffic Police on November 23, 2025, after the driver was found to be exceeding the speed limit within the Salitre Terminal operational area. The incident prompted investigations by both the Superintendency of Transportation and the Attorney GeneralS Office.

The incident underscores growing concerns regarding safety protocols at Bogotá’s major transportation hubs. While details remain under investigation, the event highlights the terminal’s commitment to a 20 km/h speed limit within its facilities and the potential consequences of non-compliance. the Terminal has initiated a review of security measures and is accelerating the installation of speed monitoring cameras across its three locations – Salitre, north, and South – to prevent future incidents.

According to the Terminal, the bus was detected traveling above the permitted speed as it began its departure. Police on site created a detailed sketch of the scene and impounded the vehicle. The case has been transferred to the Superintendency of Transportation for a full investigation into Transportes Morichal and the driver involved, with the Attorney General’s Office conducting a parallel inquiry.

“The Operational Manual establishes a maximum speed of 20 km/h within the operational zone,” a Terminal spokesperson stated. “Prior to the dispatch of each vehicle, technical-mechanical inspections, breathalyzer tests and assessment of the drivers’ physical fitness are carried out.”

The Terminal is currently installing nine additional speed monitoring cameras – seven at the Salitre headquarters, and one each at the North and South terminals – to provide real-time supervision and facilitate immediate corrective action. The new equipment is part of a broader Road Safety Program scheduled for full implementation in 2025.
