WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump anticipates Ukraine will agree to his proposed peace plan by Thursday, according to‍ sources familiar with the ⁣ongoing negotiations. The plan, a 28-point proposal, reportedly includes security⁤ guarantees for Ukraine modeled after‍ NATO’s Article 5, though details remain fluid.

The push for a swift agreement comes as the⁢ U.S. has privately⁢ offered ‍Ukraine security⁤ assurances-possibly mirroring NATO’s collective defence commitment-in the event of a significant Russian attack. This offer, revealed in a draft seen ⁤by Axios, would stipulate that a “significant, intentional and sustained armed attack” by russia across the ceasefire line would be considered a threat to transatlantic peace,⁤ prompting a ⁣joint response from the U.S. and NATO allies for a period of ten years. Simultaneously, ⁢concerns are mounting over European Union⁣ trade with Russia,⁣ which currently exceeds aid provided to Ukraine. The U.S. plan reportedly centers on ⁤a phased approach to de-escalation, including‍ a ceasefire, territorial concessions, and a commitment to Ukraine’s neutrality. While‌ the specifics of the territorial arrangements are not fully public, sources indicate Trump’s proposal diverges from Ukraine’s stated goal of ⁤full territorial integrity.

According to reporting from Tagesspiegel, the U.S. is offering Ukraine security guarantees based on the NATO model. NATO members would undertake ‍to act jointly with the USA in the event of a Russian violation. the agreement will be ⁢valid for ⁢ten years⁤ after signing.
