US Proposes New Framework for Ending Ukraine War, Reportedly Including Territorial Concessions
KYIV, Ukraine - The United States is reportedly pushing a new framework to end Russia‘s war in Ukraine, a proposal that, if accurate, would involve ukraine ceding territory currently occupied by Russia and accepting limitations on its future military size and potential NATO membership. The plan, details of which emerged thursday, comes as Ukraine faces continued struggles on the front lines and grapples with a corruption scandal.
The reported US proposal marks a meaningful shift in approach, suggesting Washington believes a negotiated settlement – even on terms unfavorable to Ukraine – may be the only path to ending the conflict. According to reports, the US seeks to maximize gains for Ukraine while concurrently accommodating Russia’s stated objectives, including retaining control of seized territories. This includes potentially restraining the size of the Ukrainian army and precluding its entry into NATO.
The development places increased pressure on ukrainian President volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is currently meeting with a US Army delegation led by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll and Army Chief of Staff Randy George in Kyiv. The delegation previously met with Ukraine’s top military commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, who reportedly emphasized the need to defend Ukraine’s airspace, extend its ability to strike deep into Russia, and stabilize the front line as the best path to a “just peace.”
The proposed framework arrives as Ukraine braces for a fourth winter of war, facing relentless Russian attacks on critical infrastructure. Strikes on Thursday alone left more than 400,000 consumers without power. A recent attack on Wednesday destroyed an apartment block in western ukraine, resulting in 26 confirmed deaths and 22 people still missing – marking one of Russia’s deadliest strikes in months.
The situation is further complicated by a widening corruption scandal within Ukraine, which some analysts believe has weakened Kyiv’s position in negotiations. Reports suggest the US feels Ukraine is “in a corner” due to these combined pressures.
