Spotify to Expand Song Credits & Launch “About the Song” Feature, Boosting Visibility for All Creators
New York, NY – November 19, 2025 – Spotify is rolling out expanded song credits and a new feature called “About the Song” designed to highlight the full range of creators involved in music production, from songwriters and producers to engineers and musicians. The updates aim to increase transparency and offer greater recognition to those behind the tracks listeners enjoy.
“About the Song” will appear as swipeable cards within the now Playing view, providing background stories, inspirations, and cultural context for individual songs. Notably, Spotify states these narratives will be sourced from third-party outlets, not directly from artists. The company also plans to offer artists and thier teams early access to review and correct credits, and provide feedback, through a spotify for Artists Preview program launching next year.
These features are particularly relevant for independent and self-releasing artists who ofen depend on accurate metadata and word-of-mouth to gain visibility. Spotify emphasizes the updates will support a more complete credit list, potentially helping collaborators discover each other within their communities and networks.
“For independent artists and self-releasing musicians – who often rely on word of mouth, DIY networks, and metadata accuracy to surface in searches – these features could offer increased visibility,” reports hypebot. “Besides offering a new level of transparency and support for the full credit list of artists contributing to songs and albums, this makes it easier for collaborators to be discovered amongst their communities and networks.”
The announcement comes as the music industry increasingly focuses on equitable credit distribution and recognizing the contributions of all involved in the creative process. Spotify’s move signals a commitment to providing a more complete and informative listening experience for users while together empowering a wider circle of music creators.
