Sony Moves to Block Fan-Run Servers⁢ Reviving‌ Discontinued PS5, PC Game Concord

Sony is taking action to shut down a fan-led effort to ⁤revive Concord, the team-based shooter it‍ abruptly discontinued earlier this year. A group of hobbyists ⁤successfully reverse ‍engineered the game, enabling them to boot it,connect to a lobby, and play matches-drawing attention to the short-lived ‍title’s potential. However, according to a⁢ report from⁢ The Game ‌Post, a “digital asset‍ protection” company named MarkScan, frequently utilized by ‍Sony to remove content from the internet, has begun issuing ⁣copyright ⁣strikes against footage from the revived‌ servers.

Concord launched in August 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PC, but was pulled from sale and servers shut down in September 2024 due to low player counts and‍ negative ⁣reception. The Game‍ Post noted the‍ concurrent user base⁤ on ⁤the⁤ fan servers likely mirrored the game’s peak numbers‌ during it’s official release. While the reverse ⁣engineering ‍team has not yet received a cease ⁣and desist order, they appear to be scaling back their efforts following the increased scrutiny.

markscan’s actions target gameplay footage, mirroring Sony’s past practices regarding modded⁢ content. Push Square reports that‌ the situation raises questions about Sony’s willingness to allow ⁢a‍ small community ‌to maintain a game ‌that struggled to find ‍an audience during its⁢ official run.
