Congo‘s State oil Company to Digitize Operations Amid Revenue Scrutiny

kinshasa – Congo’s national oil company, SNPC, ‍is undergoing a digitalization process intended ⁣to improve clarity and management of its operations, according to a recent report by Agence Ecofin. The move comes as the country increasingly relies on revenue‌ from its extractive industries, with oil and gas contributing nearly 71% of public revenues in 2022, according to the Extractive Industries Transparency initiative (EITI).

Digitalization is viewed as a ‌critical step toward preserving ‌public ‍funds and strengthening governance within Congo’s oil and gas sector. The initiative aligns with ‍recommendations ⁤from the World Bank, which emphasizes the importance of improved natural capital management for fiscal stability, ‌and the EITI’s focus on budgetary oversight of the extractive industries. Effective⁢ reform will be measured by its impact on ⁣governance and tangible results.

The SNPC digitalization aims to⁤ address challenges‌ related to transparency, ⁤control, ⁤and overall operational efficiency. ⁣ World Bank‌ reports underscore⁤ the role of governance reforms in effectively managing natural resources. The reforms are intended to enhance traceability of⁤ funds and ensure‌ responsible stewardship of Congo’s natural wealth.‌

Abdel-Latif Boureima reported‍ on the initiative, with editing by Wilfried ASSOGBA.
