Gaza Family Names Newborn ‘Singapore’ in Gratitude for Aid
Gaza, Palestine – A family in Gaza has named their newborn daughter “Singapore” as a heartfelt expression of gratitude for humanitarian assistance provided by Singaporean organizations during the ongoing conflict. The baby, born on October 16, 2025, is believed to be the first Palestinian child to receive the name.
The father,Hamdan Hadad, explained the deeply personal reason behind the naming choice. Hadad, who has worked at a Singapore-run public kitchen in Gaza for two years, stated his wife relied on the kitchen for vital nutrition throughout her pregnancy. He credited the consistent food supply with helping his family endure hunger amidst the Israel-Hamas conflict, saying, “I am happy and want to name it Singapore because I really love them.”
The naming was shared by Love Aid Singapore, a charity led by Singaporean activist Gilbert goh, on social media. The organization posted a copy of the baby’s birth certificate confirming the name. The newborn weighed 2.7kg at birth.
