LOS ANGELES – Travis Culhane, former Director of Hockey Operations for the University of Denver, has been named assistant video coordinator for the Los Angeles Kings, the NHL franchise announced today. The move marks Culhane’s transition to the professional ranks after a triumphant collegiate career.
Culhane, 29, spent the last four seasons (2020-2024) at Denver, contributing to a period of sustained success for the Pioneers. During his tenure, Denver achieved a 124-40-5 overall record, made three Frozen Four appearances (2022, 2024, 2025), and secured two NCAA National Championships (2022, 2024). He was also part of two Penrose Cup-winning seasons as NCHC regular-season champions (2021-22, 2022-23), the 2024 NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship, and four Gold Pan trophy wins against Colorado College.
“Myself and everyone at Denver hockey are thrilled for Travis, his wife Michelle and their growing family on this prospect with the los Angeles Kings,” said Denver Head Coach David carle. “Travis was a vital member of our program for the last four years and has been part of one of the greatest eras in Pioneer history with 30 wins each season, three frozen Four appearances and two national championships. We look forward to watching him continue to further his career in the national Hockey league in the years to come.”
Prior to Denver, Culhane served as the Director of Hockey Operations at Colorado College (2019-2021) and as a student assistant and later director of hockey operations at Western Michigan (2015-2019). He graduated from Western Michigan in 2017 with a bachelor’s degree in human resource management.
Culhane’s international experience includes roles as the United States video coach at the 2024 and 2025 IIHF world Junior Championships, both under Coach David Carle, where the Americans won gold medals in consecutive years - a first for USA Hockey at the under-20 level.
