by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Jakarta – Bank Indonesia (BI) has refuted reports circulating on social media, particularly ⁢X, claiming the central bank⁣ sold 11 tons of gold reserves in July.

Head of BI Interaction Department Ramdan Denny Prakoso firmly stated, “We can say that Bank Indonesia does not ⁤sell gold as mentioned,” in a written statement released Monday (October 6, 2025).

The denial follows a post from X user⁢ @k * l⁤ on‌ September 3, 2025, which cited IMF data alleging a reduction of 11 tons in‌ Indonesia’s gold reserves during ⁢July. The ⁣post read, “IMF’s⁢ latest data shows that Bank Indonesia reduces #Gold reserves by 11 ⁢tons in July. This means that ⁤our estimates published about the Global Central⁢ Bank’s net purchase of 10 tons in that month has now been revised to zero. We will record this revision ⁣in⁣ blogs and statistics next month.”

Ramdan urged the public and media ‌to rely⁣ on BI’s official website for accurate details regarding foreign exchange reserves. “Please friends of ‌the media can follow official‍ information about the development of Indonesian foreign exchange‍ reserves through ⁤the Bank Indonesia website,” he explained.
