Nena to Perform First Prague Concert, Recalls Filming wiht Czech Actor Otto Šimánek
Prague, Czech Republic – German pop icon Nena, best known for her 1983 hit “99 Luftballons,” will perform her first-ever concert in Prague as part of her Wir Gehören Zusammen tour on [Date not specified in text]. The performance, expected to last over two hours, will feature hits from the 1980s alongside songs from her 2020 album Licht, and a selection of covers.
Nena,whose real name is Gabriele Kerner,began her recording career in 1982. While her first five albums received critical acclaim, commercial success eluded her untill 2002 with the release of Nezní feat., featuring a re-arranged version of “Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime” with kim Wilde.
Her 2005 album Willst du mit MiR Gehn’ achieved platinum sales, and she continued to experiment with her 2007 album Cover Me, which included interpretations of artists ranging from David Bowie to Rammstein and Marlene Dietrich. A collaboration with German rapper Samy Deluxe on the Oldschool album in 2014 was described by one reviewer as making her voice sound “as fresh as in times of aerobics and Rubik’s cube.”
Nena has operated her own recording company, The Laugh & Peas Company, as 2009. Her most recent album, Licht, released in 2020 for her 60th birthday, featured contributions from her four children and partner, drummer Philipp Palm.
The singer also holds a special connection to Prague, having filmed the music video for “You are Everywhere” in the city’s historical center in 1990. the video featured Czech actor Otto Šimánek in the role of Mr. Tau, a character Nena remembers fondly from her childhood. “Mr. Tau has enchanted me as a child,” she explained. “It was someone who understood me and who I still love to this day.”
The Wir Gehören Zusammen tour drew over 150,000 spectators across Europe last year. Nena will be accompanied by a ten-member band in Prague.
