A new Lord of the Rings game is in development, backed by a $100 million investment from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO), and is being designed as a large-scale, third-person action adventure to rival Hogwarts Legacy.
Embracer Group, which acquired the rights to The Lord of the Rings intellectual property in 2022, is involved in the project alongside Revenge Studios and other undisclosed partners, according to a report from Insider Gaming. Sources indicate the game’s ambition is comparable to that of Hogwarts Legacy, suggesting a ample open-world experience.
ADIO is providing $100 million in funding for the project.while details remain scarce, the investment signals a commitment to a high-profile title. Both ADIO and Embracer declined to comment on the report. The news arrives following the closure of Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman project, disappointing fans who anticipated a continuation of the Shadow of War style of gameplay within the Tolkien universe.
