Cuban Woman Speaks Out After HusbandS Deportation, Criticizes ICE System
A Cuban woman is sharing her story after her husband of 23 years was recently deported to Mexico, despite having no criminal record. While acknowledging teh pain of separation, she expressed relief at his removal from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers, stating, ”Maybe some do not understand why I feel relieved, even happy, that they have deported it. but in those ICE centers the life of the detainees is in danger. It is better that it is outside.”
Her husband arrived in the United States by raft and was initially intercepted by authorities, triggering a deportation process that remained active for over two decades. Despite building a life in the US, he ultimately faced a final deportation order that was never overturned.
The woman’s experience has led her to publicly denounce what she describes as an opaque and dehumanizing immigration system. She alleges ICE frequently transfers detainees between facilities without informing their families, and that the system for tracking detainee locations is unreliable. She further claims immigrants are treated “as if they were objects” and that there is a concerning lack of openness regarding the health and well-being of those in custody.
“In her testimony, Cuban insists that the situation she lived is not an isolated case,” the report states.
Despite the hardship, the woman remains hopeful for a reunion with her husband in Mexico, and is committed to raising awareness about the struggles faced by other families in similar situations. She plans to continue using social media to highlight what she calls “the martyrdom of thousands of families.”
Growing Concerns over Deportations of Cuban Immigrants
The case highlights a broader trend of increased ICE raids and deportations, even impacting immigrants with ongoing legal processes or temporary permits like the I-220A. This shift in policy has created a climate of fear and uncertainty within the Cuban immigrant community.
