Google Expands Affordable AI Access to over 40 Countries

MOUNTAIN VIEW,CA – Google has broadened the availability of its AI Plus plan to more than 40 countries across Africa,Asia, and latin America, aiming to make advanced AI tools more accessible globally. The rollout includes Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Philippines, Senegal, Uganda, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe.

The move comes as competition heats up in the AI subscription market, with both Google and OpenAI seeking to attract users in regions where premium pricing can be prohibitive.Google initially launched the AI Plus plan in Indonesia earlier this month, priced at Rp 75,000 (approximately $4.50) per month. While the plan generally costs around $5 monthly, Google will offer a 50% discount for the first six months in select locations, including Nepal and Mexico.

Subscribers to AI Plus gain access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, alongside creative tools such as Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast for image and video generation. The tier also enhances functionality within Google’s AI research assistant NotebookLM and integrates AI capabilities into popular productivity apps like Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, while providing 200GB of cloud storage.

This expansion follows OpenAI’s recent launch of its sub-$5 ChatGPT Go plan in Indonesia,a market where OpenAI first debuted the affordable tier.Interestingly, India, the initial launch country for ChatGPT Go, is not currently included in Google’s list of AI Plus availability.

Both Google and OpenAI continue to offer a standard $20 per month subscription plan, but these new, lower-cost options demonstrate a strategic effort to broaden their user base in price-sensitive markets.
