Prime Minister ‍Anthony Albanese will travel to Washington D.C. next month for a bilateral meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, ‌according ⁢to a confirmation from the White House reported by the Australian broadcasting Corporation (ABC).

The meeting is scheduled to take place on October 20th. A White House official verified the date.

This visit will be a dedicated trip to Washington, separate from the typical “summit season” – the period⁢ at the ‍end of the year characterized by a series of international summits and gatherings.

The announcement follows several ⁤months of inquiry regarding a potential meeting between ⁤the two leaders, as no formal engagement has occurred as President Trump’s inauguration in January.

Previously, a meeting ‍was planned on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Canada in June. However, President⁣ Trump curtailed his participation in the G7 to return to the United States due to escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

Prior to departing Australia, Prime Minister Albanese’s office indicated to journalists that a‌ meeting during the current United Nations⁤ General Assembly in New York was ‌not anticipated, but expressed confidence that a meeting would be arranged at a ⁤later date.
