U23 Time Trialists to Battle for Rainbow Jerseys on Day 2 of road World Championships
Kigali, Rwanda – The 2025 UCI Road World Championships continue Monday, September 22, with the Under-23 individual time trial competitions. The women will kick off the day at 10:30 local time, followed by the men at 13:35.These races represent a crucial chance for young riders to claim a coveted rainbow jersey and establish themselves on the world stage.
The U23 time trials are a proving ground for future stars, with past champions including Danny Pate (2001) and Taylor Phinney (2010) going on to accomplished professional careers. This year,Sweden’s Jakob Söderqvist enters the men’s race as the favorite,boasting two national TT titles and a recent victory in the Tour of Denmark’s race against the clock. Representing the United States, reigning national U23 time trial champion Cole Kessler will compete in the men’s event.
In the women’s race, the field will be looking to challenge Marlen Reusser’s dominance, having won the Elite Women’s Individual Time trial on Day 1. the men’s field also features Jarno Widar of Belgium, who recently finished second overall at the tour de l’Avenir, and Italy’s Lorenzo Finn, the reigning junior road world champion, alongside Spain’s Adrià pericas, set to join UAE Emirates-XRG next year.The demanding Kigali course is expected to test the riders’ strength and tactical acumen as they vie for the world title.
