Lotte Kopecky: Weight Loss Strategy Backfired, Impacted Tour de France Femmes

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor December 6, 2025
written by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Lotte Kopecky Abandons Tour de France Ambitions After Weight Loss Struggles

Belgian cyclist Lotte Kopecky has announced‌ a shift in focus ‍away from‌ contending‌ for the general classification in the ⁤Tour de France, ⁤citing a ‌detrimental experience wiht weight loss efforts during⁤ her 2024 ‌campaign.‌ Kopecky, who finished second‍ overall in the 2023 Tour, experienced her weakest‍ performance to date in the⁤ race this year, finishing ⁣45th overall with a best stage result of 11th.

The athlete’s struggles stemmed ‌from a readiness⁤ strategy centered‌ around weight reduction, a method successfully employed by rival Pauline Ferrand Prévot, who shed four ⁣kilos prior to winning ⁤the event by nearly four minutes. However, Kopecky’s attempt proved⁣ counterproductive.

“It didn’t get a fair chance,” Kopecky stated regarding ‍her Tour ⁤campaign. “With the preparation that wasn’t good, it was‌ a hopeless case.Focusing on ⁣a general ⁣classification in the Tour wasn’t the very ‌best choice, but ⁢I also can’t say I regret⁤ it. ⁤Otherwise, after my career, I might have regretted never ⁢having tried.”

Kopecky revealed the process of working with a dietitian became a ⁢notable‍ mental burden. “Last season ⁢I started working with a ⁤dietitian, and that was a big burden for me,” she said at the Belgian track championships, according to Sporza.‌ “now the numbers came into play and you expect very big changes. But ‍they did not come.‌ In preparation, it was already ‌mentally too ‍much.”

While⁢ acknowledging the possibility of future ‌Tour de France participation, Kopecky ⁤emphasized a change in approach. “I’m not saying it’s 200 percent off the table, but for now, it is indeed,” she told ⁣Het Nieuwsblad. “I would only do ‌it ‍on a course that suits me 200 percent.”

Kopecky intends to prioritize track racing and the classics,⁤ aiming‍ for a return to a healthier and more accomplished racing ‌style. The experience highlights the delicate balance between performance optimization and athlete well-being in ⁣professional cycling, notably concerning‍ weight management. Ferrand Prévot herself ⁢cautioned‍ that⁤ her ‍successful weight loss was achieved⁤ under ‌expert ‍medical supervision and⁤ was intended ‍to be temporary, later experiencing a dip in form.

Kopecky’s experience underscores⁣ the potential pitfalls ⁤of⁢ aggressive weight loss strategies, even when undertaken with the ‌best⁣ intentions.

pro Cycling Safety ⁢Under Scrutiny: Airbags and⁢ licensing Debated⁣ for ⁣2026

teh Velo Podcast recently tackled the critical question of enhancing safety‌ in professional cycling, exploring the⁣ potential ⁢of rider airbags and a proposed⁣ “super license” system. the‌ discussion⁤ centered on the viability of ‌bib shorts ⁢equipped with automatically inflating⁢ airbags – technology proven effective in MotoGP. While the potential for impact ⁢protection is clear, the podcast team debated practical⁢ considerations like weight ‌penalties, comfort during long ⁣stages, and potential resistance ‌from clothing sponsors.

Beyond airbags, ⁢the conversation turned to a‌ licensing system‌ suggested by CPA ⁣president Adam Hansen. The editors considered the merits of proficiency tests for professional riders, questioning ‌what skills such courses should prioritize and whether the administrative ⁢burden would outweigh the safety benefits. ‍

Looking ahead⁢ to 2026, the podcast also previewed anticipated ‌updates to several gravel bikes, with speculation focusing on a potential new Specialized Crux and broader trends in the gravel bike market. Nine new or updated models are expected, prompting discussion ‍on the evolving⁢ demands of the discipline.

Full Moon in Gemini This December: A Portal for Mental Liberation & Rewriting ⁤Your Narrative

As 2026 approaches, the full Moon in Gemini arriving this December offers a potent opportunity for personal conversion through ‌shifts in thought and interaction. This final full Moon of the year isn’t about sweeping changes, but recognizing how small adjustments in mindset can dramatically alter reality, according to insights from Yoga journal and Spirit Daughter.

The lunation encourages introspection, prompting individuals to identify ‍rigid thought patterns, perceived limitations accepted as facts, and outdated beliefs no longer aligned wiht⁣ their current selves. It’s a time to release‌ old self-narratives that hinder growth.

This full Moon emphasizes observing one’s own mind and energy as valuable details, rather than taking lessons ⁤personally. Under Gemini’s influence,it presents a chance to “liberate ourselves from mental prisons of our own making,” clearing⁣ internal communication channels and embracing empowering narratives.

the Universe ⁢is presented as actively supporting ‌individual evolution, offering a⁣ “cosmic permission slip to think differently, speak differently, act differently, and, ultimately, become a different version of yourself.” The core question posed is: “What story ‍will you⁣ choose to tell?”

Further exploration, ‍including astrological insights and journaling prompts, is available in the Gemini Full Moon workbook ⁤from Spirit Daughter.

Title: Embracing Loneliness: A Path to Self-Awareness and Connection

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor December 1, 2025
written by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Feeling Utterly Disconnected? Ancient Practice Offers New Hope for Chronic Loneliness

New research and a resurgence of interest in contemplative ‌traditions⁢ suggest ⁣a path beyond simply coping with loneliness, offering a potential for transcendence through cultivating inner‍ awareness. For those who have exhausted conventional methods‍ of connection – social activities, therapy, even building relationships – a⁤ surprising source ⁢of solace may lie in practices like yoga and meditation, focusing not on finding connection, but on realizing it.

The modern epidemic of loneliness,‌ exacerbated by social fragmentation and digital disconnection, is reaching critical levels. ⁢But the ⁤feeling of profound isolation isn’t new. As poets, philosophers, and mystics have ‍observed for centuries, the core of⁤ loneliness⁣ stems from a fundamental illusion: the belief in a separate self. This perceived separation, ‍this “illusion of being someone,” can be deeply unsettling.

Yoga offers a unique perspective, suggesting that the emptiness felt during periods of loneliness isn’t truly ‌empty at all.The practice aims to train individuals to recognize that this perceived nothingness is, in fact, a vibrant, creative awareness – a “substance-less substance” that permeates⁢ everything and inherently connects all beings.

The key, experts say, isn’t to fill the ⁢void with external stimuli, but to explore the internal landscape. “The antidote ⁤to loneliness is to get to know the pure awareness that lies behind your thoughts and feelings, and to realize how full of potential it is,” explains practitioners of this approach. This awareness, often referred to as the self or Buddha nature, provides an inherent connection that renders loneliness impossible, at least in the long term.

However, accessing this awareness ⁤requires dedicated practice, most notably through meditation. Creating intentional space ⁢for aloneness – through meditation or time spent in nature – allows individuals to begin dismantling the illusion of ego and glimpse⁤ the underlying interconnectedness. Once experienced, this connection serves as a powerful anchor, a reminder ⁣during times of isolation.

One particularly effective technique is metta, or lovingkindness meditation. As detailed in resources like Yoga Journal (https://www.yogajournal.com/meditation/loving-kindness-meditation-challenge/), this practice actively transforms feelings of ‌separation into feelings of connection.

A variation ‌of lovingkindness meditation, useful for those experiencing loneliness, involves a focused breathing exercise:

* Inhale: “May I be happy.”
* Exhale: “May I feel loved.”
* Inhale: “May all my suffering be healed.”
* exhale: “May I be at peace.”

This is then extended to encompass others - loved ones, strangers, those⁢ experiencing hardship (children, the homeless, those in conflict zones) – repeating the same phrases with each breath. the practice culminates in⁣ extending these blessings to all beings: “May all beings be happy. may all beings feel loved. May the suffering of all beings be healed.May ⁤all beings be at peace.”

Practitioners report ‍that this systematic sending of blessings fosters a sense of connection that⁤ transcends individual relationships. the realization of this “unbreakable connectedness,” even⁣ for a fleeting moment, shifts the experience from coping with loneliness to actively transcending it. This isn’t simply about feeling less ⁣ lonely; it’s about understanding that loneliness, at its core, is a ⁣misperception – a belief⁣ in a separation that doesn’t truly exist.
