ukraine’s ‘Military Amazon’ Rewards Soldiers for Kills with Drone Procurement Points

Eastern Ukraine – In a stark reflection of the evolving nature of modern warfare, Ukraine is utilizing a points-based system – dubbed “Brave1” – to allow frontline units to procure vital drone technology. The initiative, launched by the country’s digital transformation ministry, essentially gamifies battlefield success, rewarding soldiers with points redeemable for drones and other essential equipment. The system is driven by the increasing dominance of drones in the conflict with Russia. as Rubik, a 22-year-old Ukrainian drone pilot with the 3rd Army Corps, explains, “You get the most points for infantry, so everyone is focusing on destroying manpower.” Rubik, who uses a military nickname for security reasons, recently spent weeks tracking a single Russian soldier, motivated by the potential to earn at least six points towards replenishing his brigade’s drone stock.

Brave1 operates much like an online marketplace, leading its creators to call it the “world’s first military Amazon.” Brigades can browse available drones – priced anywhere from two to a few dozen points – select the equipment they need, and even leave reviews, fostering a feedback loop to improve procurement.

The platform represents a significant shift in how Ukraine is equipping its forces, allowing for a more agile and responsive supply chain directly tied to battlefield performance. As the war continues to be defined by drone warfare, Brave1 offers a glimpse into a potentially unsettling future of conflict – one where success is quantified, and victory is, in part, purchased.
