Malcolm-Jamal Warner‘s Final Role: ‘Cosby Show’ Star to Appear in Season 2 of “Murder in a Small Town”

Fans will have one last chance to see the late Malcolm-Jamal Warner on screen. The beloved actor, tragically lost in a drowning accident in Costa Rica in July at the age of 54, will appear in a guest role on the upcoming second season of Fox‘s mystery series, “Murder in a Small Town.”
Warner’s final performance will be in episode 3, titled “Mother love,” set to air on October 7th. He portrays Richard Buscombe, a complex character described as a fiercely protective father and a prime suspect in the murder of his ex-wife shortly after her return to town.
“[Richard] wears his anger and pain on his sleeve, but his only goal in life is to keep his daughter safe,” according to the episode synopsis.
Showrunner Ian Weir spoke to People shortly before Warner’s death, praising the actor’s depth and integrity. “His performance – as a struggling single dad,fiercely protective of his daughter – just glows with integrity,” Weir said. “he found levels that I hadn’t imagined.” He added, “It’s such a terrible, tragic loss.”

“Murder in a Small Town,” based on the book series by L.R. Wright, follows police chief karl (Rossif Sutherland) as he investigates mysterious murders in his jurisdiction, often with the assistance of his girlfriend, Cassandra (Kristin Kreuk), and other town residents.
This role marks a poignant final chapter in Warner’s career, best known for his iconic portrayal of Theodore “Theo” Huxtable on the groundbreaking sitcom “The Cosby show.”

Warner was in Costa Rica with his daughter when he passed away on July 20th. His mother, Pamela Warner, later shared that he did not suffer in his final moments.
