Powerball App Jackpocket Faces Scrutiny in Ohio as ‌$1.4 Billion Jackpot Looms

Columbus, OH -⁤ September 3, 2025 ⁤ – As the Powerball jackpot climbs to a staggering $1.4 billion, Ohio lottery players are finding⁣ they‍ cannot⁢ utilize the Jackpocket app to purchase tickets, raising questions about⁢ the legality and operation ⁢of the popular third-party service. While Jackpocket maintains⁤ it operates legally‍ within the state, it⁣ is indeed not ‍affiliated with the official Ohio Lottery and has faced scrutiny regarding its compliance⁤ with ⁣retailer ⁣terms and conditions.

Jackpocket fulfills users’ orders through a licensed lottery shop, Winners Corner, according to Frizzi-Babb, ⁣a representative for the company. Though, the app’s operational ‌status comes amid increasing ‌regulatory⁣ concerns surrounding lottery courier‌ services.⁤ The Texas ⁢Lottery Commission recently⁢ banned the purchase of lottery tickets through such apps in February, citing a lack of oversight.

The odds of ⁤winning the‌ Powerball jackpot are 1 in ‍292.2 million, with ⁤a cash value ‌payout of‍ $634.3⁤ million. To win,⁣ players must match ‌all five white⁣ balls (chosen from numbers 1-69)⁢ and the red ⁤Powerball (chosen from numbers ⁢1-26). Players can ⁤select their own numbers or opt for a ‍randomly generated selection.A “Power Play” option, available for an additional $1, can multiply non-jackpot winnings.

Powerball drawings are ‌held⁢ every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.ET, broadcast live and streamed⁤ on the Powerball website. It’s critically important to note that Jackpocket is distinct from another third-party lottery ‍app, Jackpot.com, which remains available in Ohio.

Frizzi-Babb did not respond to a request for comment regarding how Jackpocket violated the ⁤Ohio ⁤Lottery commission’s retailer terms and ⁣conditions.
