This forecast comes from Saskia Schenker,the newly appointed president of prio.swiss, the federation representing Swiss health insurers.
Speaking on Sunday evening,Schenker confirmed the 4% projection,aligning with earlier estimates from the Compara Institute.While the exact figures won’t be finalized until the end of September when Federal Councillor Elisabeth Baume-Schneider makes the official announcement, Schenker indicated the increase is “plausible” given the current trajectory of healthcare expenses.

This anticipated rise follows significant premium increases in recent years: 6.6% in 2023, 8.7% in 2024, and an average of 6% in 2025. These increases are driven by a complex interplay of factors, including advancements in medical technology, an aging population, and the rising costs associated with hospital care. Switzerland’s total health expenditure is predicted to surpass 100 billion francs in 2025, further illustrating the strain on the system.
