Anti-Jewish Action in Australia, the synagogue door is burned by Israel

A man burned the synagogue door and a group of protesters stormed the restaurant Israel In Melbourne, Australia. The incident was the latest anti-Jewish action in a number of cities in Australia.

Reported CNNSunday (6/7/2025), there were about 20 people in the synagogue when a man poured flammable liquid on the front door of the synagogue at Albert Street, Melbourne. The man then burned it.

The Jewish group is doing Sabbath dinner, which marks the start of the rest day for Jews. The attack occurred at 8 pm local time.

No one was injured as a result of the incident and the officers put out the fire before enlarged. The perpetrators are said to have escaped from the scene.

About 1 km to the west of the location of the synagogue, about 20 protesters stormed into an Israeli restaurant and shouted slogans. A 28 -year -old man was arrested for blocking the police and had been released based on a court call.

The group shouted ‘to the Idf (Israeli military)’ before arriving at the restaurant.

Temporary commander, Zorka Dunstan, from the Victoria state police said officers were also investigating the third attack on Saturday morning where three cars were burned near a business on the northeast of Greensborough. The suspect is suspected of spraying paint on the car and the walls of the building, he said, added that the business had become the target of pro-Palestinian protesters in the past.

The security investigation unit, part of the antiterrorism command, is investigating all these incidents. The police have not stated whether the incident was a terrorism incident.

“We will examine the intentions and ideology of the people or the people involved,” he said.

Many of the 117,000 Australian Jews were anxious after a series of antisemite attacks in the two largest cities in the country, Sydney and Melbourne, since the end of last year. The attack included arson in the synagogue and symbol of Swastika (Nazi) which was scribbled in buildings and cars.

Mayor Melbourne Nicholas Reece described the attack as a surprising thing.

“I cannot condemn this kind of behavior harder. This is a peaceful and tolerant city, and we will not let this,” he said.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog joined the attack in his own post on X, urged Australian officials to ‘take all the steps needed to protect their Jewish citizens’.

“This is not the first attack in Australia in recent months. But this must be the last,” Herzog wrote.
