YouTube Music Expands with Spotify-Inspired Features & AI-Powered Podcast Tools
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA – YouTube Music is rolling out a suite of new features designed to deepen artist-fan connections and enhance the podcast experience, mirroring popular functionalities from Spotify and leveraging artificial intelligence. Announced this week, the updates include release countdowns, exclusive artist content, and a program for limited-edition merchandise drops, alongside AI-driven video generation for podcasts.
The first feature arriving on YouTube Music, inspired by Spotify’s countdown pages, is a Countdown function. This will allow users to view a countdown timer for upcoming album releases directly on the album and artist detail pages, with the ability to pre-save albums or singles. Exclusive video outputs are also planned for early next year, enabling artists to share thank-you videos, behind-the-scenes clips, and other fan-focused content.Rounding out the new offerings is a pilot program for exclusive product drops, currently available to users in the United States, allowing fans to purchase limited-edition merchandise directly from artists.
Beyond music, YouTube is addressing the surging popularity of podcasts – with users logging over 100 million hours of podcast listening daily as of July – by integrating artificial intelligence. YouTube will now utilize AI to automatically generate visual components for podcasts, offering creators a range of “visual styles” including documentary, noir film,3D animation, and bokeh effects, dynamically matching graphics to the podcast’s content. This feature is slated for release to select podcast creators at the beginning of next year.
