A public official’s recent remarks have drawn sharp criticism from a union, which has condemned the statements as “regional and hateful” and a dereliction of duty and ethics. Choi Jae-min,a member of the Gangwon-do council (representing Wonju 4),expressed regret over the remarks,which were perceived as demeaning to a specific region and its young women. Amidst the growing controversy, the official, identified as Kim, issued an apology for causing concern through recent media reports. kim stated that the remarks were made in a casual setting with reporters and pledged to ensure Haeundae and Songjeong Beaches remain comfortable and safe resorts this summer, while also addressing local issues.
kim clarified that there was no intent to harm or disparage any region or women, attributing the negative perception to the selective reporting of certain expressions without the full context of the conversation or atmosphere. The official vowed to exercise greater caution and clarity in future communications to prevent misunderstandings.
