Xiaomi 17 Sales Fall Short as iPhone 17 Gains Traction in China
Beijing – Initial excitement surrounding Xiaomi’s recently launched 17 series – comprising the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max – has waned, with sales forecasts now 20 percent below the original target of 10 million units, according to a report by Gizmochina. the devices, boasting features like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, batteries up to 7,500 mAh, Leica camera tuning with 16.5 EV dynamic scope, and a unique secondary AMOLED display on the Pro models, initially sold out within five minutes of release, according to Xiaomi.
However, the Xiaomi 17 series may fall behind the 8 million units sold by the Xiaomi 15 series. A key factor contributing to the slowdown is unexpectedly strong competition from Apple’s forthcoming iPhone 17, particularly in the entry-level segment, where the iPhone 17’s 120 Hz display is proving popular with Chinese consumers.
The standard Xiaomi 17 model, initially projected to account for over half of total sales, currently represents only 15 to 20 percent of purchases. Xiaomi holds approximately 15 percent of the premium smartphone market in China, and the current forecast impacts primarily this region. International availability is expected to be limited to the Xiaomi 17 and a potential ultra model. Analysts suggest Xiaomi might potentially be forced to reduce prices if the trend doesn’t reverse during the “golden Week” holiday (October 1-7).
