WTA Moves 2026 Finals to Indian Wells After Riyadh Agreement Ends Early
The Women’s Tennis Association has moved its 2026 season-ending finals from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Southern California, prematurely ending a three-year hosting agreement amid operational uncertainties and regional tensions.
The tournament runs from November 8 to 15, 2026, featuring the top eight singles players and doubles teams competing in Stadium 1. sportspro.com reported that the event carries a total prize fund of US$10 million. This represents a reduction of US$5.5 million compared to the previous year’s payout in Saudi Arabia. Undefeated singles champions can still earn US$3.37 million, including participation fees.
The relocation marks the seventh different venue for the WTA Finals since 2018. “Following two impactful years of the WTA Finals in Riyadh, the WTA requested to move the 2026 WTA Finals to a new host location,” the WTA stated. The Saudi Tennis Federation accepted the proposal to conclude the hosting arrangement early.
Charlotte Transition Creates Schedule Challenges and Financial Pressure
The California stop serves as a temporary bridge before the tournament settles in Charlotte at the Spectrum Center from 2027 to 2029. Sharing an arena with the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets forces a compressed five-day schedule. This shorter window raises potential player welfare concerns regarding consecutive match days for finalists.
The tour faces economic challenges during this transition. The Telegraph reported that the WTA forecasted a US$23 million operating loss for 2026 following its departure from Riyadh. CVC Capital Partners' US$150 million investment concludes with its final annual payment in 2027.
New Commercial Partners and Broadcast Rights Secure the Tour
Despite financial strain, the tour secured yoghurt brand FAGE as the title partner for the next four editions of the WTA Finals. Teodora Ivanova, chief business officer of WTA Ventures, described the arrangement as an attractive partnership for both sides. Hello Kitty also signed on for an official merchandise collaboration debuting at Indian Wells.
In the United Kingdom, Sky Sports retains exclusive rights through 2028, where women accounted for 60 percent of Sky Tennis audiences in 2025.

WTA chair Valerie Camillo said: “From its world-class facilities and passionate fan base to its proven ability to deliver premier tennis events, the venue offers everything needed to showcase the very best of women’s tennis.” Ticket sales for the Indian Wells event opened to the general public in July 2026.
