Light Figure Symbolizes Solidarity at World AIDS Day Event in Stuttgart
Stuttgart,Germany – A striking light doll, carried by a group in dark clothing, served as a powerful symbol of human cohesion and solidarity during a World AIDS Day event in Stuttgart today. The campaign culminated in a silent march to a memorial honoring those who have died from HIV and AIDS.
The display underscored the continuing importance of AIDS awareness and support, particularly as prevention and advisory services face increasing financial strain. Globally, approximately 1.3 million peopel were newly infected with HIV in 2024, and around 630,000 died from AIDS-related illnesses, according to the UN. As of the end of 2024,40.8 million people worldwide are living with HIV,though access to life-saving antiviral medications has reached over three-quarters of those affected.
The light doll represents the central values of AIDS relief – mutual support and lived solidarity – for the past 40 years. “At a time when people are still experiencing exclusion, this symbol is of extraordinary importance,” said a representative of the association organizing the event.
In Germany, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) estimates 2,300 new HIV infections occurred in 2024, approximately 200 more than reported in 2023.
