Uber Introduces Women Driver Preference Option for Enhanced Rider Comfort and Safety
ST. LOUIS – Uber has rolled out a new feature allowing riders – specifically women and teens - to request trips with female drivers, the company announced today. The initiative aims to provide increased comfort and safety for passengers who may prefer a female driver.
The new option functions in several ways, according to Uber’s website: riders can select “Women Drivers” when requesting an on-demand trip, pre-book rides with female drivers using the “Reserve” function, or set a preference for women drivers within their app settings.
While Uber states it will prioritize matching riders with their preference,a guaranteed match isn’t always possible. “While we’ll do our best to match riders and drivers based on their preference when these options are selected, we can’t guarantee a match every time,” the company explained. “Because there are fewer women drivers on the platform than men drivers, availability may be limited and can vary by time and location.”
The feature is currently available in select cities, with Uber providing a resource for riders to determine availability in their area. Click here to check city availability.
