DECATUR, TX – August 7, 2024 – Wise County residents have a full week ahead with local meetings, sales, educational opportunities, and memorial services. Judge Chris Taylor will be speaking at a Republican Women meeting,while several barbecue sales and a beef summit are planned.
REPUBLICAN WOMEN MEETING – The Wise republican Women will convene at 6 p.m. Monday in the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Courtroom located within the Sheriff’s office in Decatur. Featured speaker will be 48th District Court Judge Chris Taylor, who is currently campaigning for the Place 2 seat on the 2nd Court of Appeals. The 2nd Court of Appeals serves a 15-county region in North Texas.
LABOR DAY BARBECUE – The Greenwood Masonic Lodge 779 is hosting a Labor Day BBQ sale,offering brisket,sausage,pork butt,and ribs. MULTICOUNTY BEEF SUMMIT – The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a multicounty beef summit from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on August 20 at the Vashti Community Center, 9345 farm Road 1288 in Bellevue, TX 76228. The summit is open to residents of Wise, Archer, Clay, Jack, Montague, and Wichita counties. The $30 registration fee includes lunch. Registration is available online at tx.ag/MultiCountyBeefSummit or by contacting Bill Holcombe at bill.holcombe@ag.tamu.edu. The registration deadline is August 15. Topics will include beef cattle management, market updates, and industry trends.
CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY – The Decatur Police Department will launch its Citizens Police Academy on tuesday, August 26, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Decatur Police Department,located at 312 W. Walnut Street,Decatur,TX 76234. The course culminates in a graduation ceremony on November 18. Interested individuals can find class data and registration paperwork at decaturtx.org. OBITUARIES –
Betty Ann White, 70, of Decatur, will be remembered in a service at 10 a.m. Friday at Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur, followed by burial at Thomas Cemetery. A family visitation will be held tonight from 6-8 p.m.at the funeral home.
A memorial graveside service for Merrie Bishop, 65, of Bowie, is scheduled for 10 a.m. saturday at Elmwood Cemetery. Hawkins-Decatur is handling arrangements.
Services for Myoka Tuggle, 77, of Boyd, are pending at Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
Berniece Landers, 84, of Bridgeport, will be honored in a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at Pleasant View baptist Church in Bridgeport, with burial at Thomas Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. Friday prior to the service. Hudson & Torres Family funeral Home in Bridgeport is in charge of arrangements.
Tommy Nallie, 77, of Forsyth, Missouri, will be remembered in a 10 a.m. Monday service at Hudson & Torres in Bridgeport, followed by burial at Eastside Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
