Critical whatsapp Security Gap: Apple Users Should Act Urgently
A recently discovered security vulnerability in WhatsApp allowed cybercriminals to potentially access chats on Apple devices without requiring users to click links or download files. The “zero-click” exploit, first reported by Techcrunch adn detailed by Echo24, has been addressed by Meta, but users must update their software to be fully protected.
The vulnerability, identified as CVE-2025-55177, specifically impacted Apple devices. When combined with a separate weakness in iOS and macOS, attackers could potentially install monitoring software.Apple released an operating system update on August 20 to mitigate this risk.
WhatsApp is urging users with WhatsApp versions prior to 2.25.21.73, or WhatsApp Business/Mac versions before 2.25.21.78, to update immediately. According to WhatsApp, full protection requires both a WhatsApp update and the latest operating system update for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Experts recommend updating even if no direct warning has been received.
