Voter ID cards to reach within 15 days: Election Commission rolls out fast-track delivery system | India News

Faster Voter ID Delivery Now a Reality

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled a streamlined system for delivering voter ID cards. This initiative aims to significantly reduce the waiting time for new and updated cards, ensuring citizens receive essential documents swiftly.

Accelerated Delivery Process

The ECI has introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to expedite voter ID card distribution. This updated process guarantees that Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) will be delivered within 15 days following any updates to the electoral rolls. This includes newly registered voters and existing electors requesting changes. Currently, it takes over a month for these cards to reach voters.

The enhanced system was launched under the guidance of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Dr. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr. Vivek Joshi. It is engineered to improve service delivery with real-time tracking from card generation to dispatch via the Department of Posts (DoP).

Voters will receive SMS updates throughout the process, staying informed about their EPIC status. The ECI also launched a dedicated IT module on its ECINet platform. This integrates with the DoP’s system using an Application Programme Interface (API). This approach will streamline workflows, replacing the existing manual tracking process and enhancing data security.

Officials indicate this step is part of the Commission’s broader efforts. The goal is to make electoral services more accessible to voters throughout the country over the past four months. The Election Commission aims to ensure that every eligible citizen can exercise their right to vote efficiently and with ease.

Significant Improvements

Previously, the process of obtaining a voter ID card or updating details was lengthy. This often caused inconvenience for citizens. Now, with this new system, the ECI aims to reduce delays.

“We are committed to providing efficient and timely services to our voters,” stated a senior official. “This initiative is a step toward achieving that goal, ensuring that every citizen receives their voter ID card promptly.”

The swift delivery of voter ID cards is crucial for electoral participation. According to recent data, voter turnout rates have improved in areas where ID distribution is timely and efficient (Source 2024). This suggests a direct correlation between accessibility and voter engagement.

Impact on Voters

The improved process is set to significantly benefit voters. Those registering for the first time or updating their information can expect to receive their cards much faster.

The ECI’s initiative showcases a commitment to leveraging technology. The goal is to enhance services for the electorate and simplify the administrative processes. These improvements are aimed at making the electoral process more inclusive and user-friendly.
