Václav Mareš, Beloved Czech Actor Known for ‘Once a cop,’ Dies at 82

He was 82. The actor passed away after a long battle with an unspecified serious illness.
mareš’s death marks the loss of a versatile performer who captivated audiences across film, television, and dubbing for decades. His comedic timing and ability to portray both serious and lighthearted characters made him a fixture in Czech entertainment. The news comes as the nation reflects on the 40th anniversary of the filming of Village has a Center, another of Mareš’s memorable roles.
Director Václav Mareš first worked with the actor in February 1980, subsequently casting him in five feature films. He described Mareš as a “pleasant and reliable actor” capable of excelling in diverse genres, including the comedic Once a Cop II and III.Beyond his on-screen work, Mareš lent his voice to dozens of foreign actors in Czech dubbing.
