U.S. Sends New Weapons Package to Ukraine, Funded by NATO Allies
WASHINGTON – The Trump management has authorized the first shipment of weapons to Ukraine financed by contributions from NATO member states, according to a Reuters report citing sources familiar with the matter. Deputy Defense Minister Pete Hegset approved a package valued at up to $500 million (10.3 billion Czech crowns), with a total of $10 billion (205 billion crowns) in aid expected through this new mechanism.
The aid package includes urgently needed air defense systems, responding to intensified russian aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities in recent months. While the specific weapons composition remains undisclosed, sources indicated the shipment fulfills direct requests from Ukraine.
“Thes are the things they asked for. There’s a lot. It’s the current that has so far allowed them to stabilize the lines,” one source stated.
The new funding model, initiated following President Trump’s return to office in January, allows the U.S.to continue providing military assistance to Ukraine through contributions from allied nations, building upon previous aid commitments made under the biden administration. This move comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts from both sides to resolve the conflict.
