Russia Intensifies Attacks on Ukraine, Targeting Industrial infrastructure
Dnipro, Ukraine - August 30, 2024 – Russia has escalated its attacks on ukraine, with a “massive attack” reported in the Dnipropetrovsk Prefecture early this morning, impacting the cities of Dnipro and Pavlograd. This comes as Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov claims significant damage has been inflicted on Ukraine’s military and industrial base this year.
According to Belousov, Russian forces have conducted 35 large-scale attacks targeting 146 “extremely critically important” objectives. he stated that 62% of Ukraine’s military industry infrastructure has been damaged, with a focus on weakening production capacity, logistics centers, and drone launch sites.
Belousov also highlighted Russia’s efforts to bolster its own drone capabilities, including accelerated pilot training. He noted improvements are also being made to the speed of tactical force movement, with 22,725 motorcycles, four-wheelers, and off-road vehicles delivered this year, and a projected 12,186 allocated to frontline troops by year’s end.
The attack on Dnipropetrovsk Oblast marks a shift in intensity for the region, which had previously seen less direct conflict since Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. Ukrainian authorities acknowledged a Russian incursion into the area on August 26th, following prior Russian claims of establishing a foothold there.Governor Sergiy Lysak warned residents via Telegram to seek cover as explosions continued to be heard. He reported that two civilians were killed in overnight airstrikes.
Russia maintains its claim that the donetsk, Kherson, Lugansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions, as well as Crimea, are part of Russian territory, but Dnipropetrovsk Oblast is not included in these claims.
