UDS Graduates Over 7,800 Students, Celebrates Global Recognition
The University for Growth Studies (UDS) recently held its 26th congregation in Tamale, awarding degrees to a total of 7,870 graduates. The ceremony, held on November 29th, was framed by university leadership as a pivotal moment – the culmination of academic dedication and the launch of a new chapter of civic duty.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Seidu Al-Hassan emphasized the significance of the occasion, stating it marked “a powerful moment of change where years of sacrifice meet the promise of tomorrow.” He noted the graduating class comprised 4,396 men (56%) and 3,474 women (44%), reflecting the university’s ongoing commitment to gender equity through targeted policies, scholarships, and mentorship programs.
Professor Al-Hassan highlighted UDS’s rising international profile, citing its ranking as Ghana’s leading university for quality teaching and second for international outlook according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. He also celebrated recent successes including the university’s football team winning the world university football championship in China, and UDS being the sole Ghanaian institution invited to the University Presidents Forum in China. Further recognition came for the Directorate of Internal audit, awarded for excellence in Enterprise Risk Management Compliance.
The university is also actively expanding its infrastructure. New facilities on the Tamale campus, including a Nursing and midwifery block, a twin auditorium, and portions of a science laboratory complex, have been completed. A 500-bed student hostel at the nyankpala campus,funded by the Ghana universities Staff Superannuation Scheme,is currently under construction.
Professor Al-Hassan charged the graduating class to embody the values of integrity, compassion, and adaptability, and to dedicate themselves to service within their communities and future workplaces.
Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ali Adolf John, represented by Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Abdulai Imoro Gong, praised UDS for its vital role in broadening access to higher education in northern Ghana and its contribution to regional socio-economic progress.
Valedictorian Miss Victoria Boamah expressed gratitude to the university, families, and guardians for their unwavering support, and pledged the graduates’ commitment to utilizing their skills and knowledge for the betterment of society.
