Mixed relay Team Time Trial Closes Out UCI Worlds Time Trial Competition
RUANDA, September 24 – The Mixed Relay Team Time Trial brought the UCI Road World Championships’ time trial schedule to a dramatic close today, testing nations’ strategic depth and collaborative speed against the Rwandan landscape. The event, a relatively recent addition to the World Championships program, saw teams of three men and three women each navigate a challenging course, blending individual power with synchronized teamwork.
Introduced in 2019, the mixed Relay has quickly become a coveted title, demanding a unique skillset beyond individual time trialing prowess. Success hinges on seamless transitions, consistent pacing, and the ability to leverage each rider’s strengths within the team dynamic. This year’s competition underscored the growing importance of this discipline as nations invest in developing riders capable of excelling in both individual and team settings, with the next edition slated for Zurich in 2024.
Earlier in the week, individual time trial champions were crowned across various age groups. Arlen Reussen secured victory in the Men Elite Individual Time Trial, while Remco Evenepoel claimed the rainbow jersey.Zoe Bäckstedt dominated the Women Under-23 Individual Time Trial, and Jakob Söderqvist took the Men Under-23 title. Megan Arens and Michiel Mouris emerged victorious in the Women Junior and Men Junior Individual Time Trials, respectively.
The championships began on september 22nd with the Women Under-23 and Men Under-23 Individual Time Trials, following the Men Elite event on september 21st. Junior competitions took place on September 23rd. the remaining schedule includes the Women Under-23 Road Race on September 25th, Men Junior and Under-23 Road Races on September 26th, Women junior and Elite Road Races on September 27th, and culminating with the Men Elite Road Race on September 28th.
