Uber Eats Enhances User Experience with generative AI
Table of Contents
Uber Eats is rolling out new features designed to help businesses advertise and communicate with customers, incorporating generative AI into menu descriptions, food photos, and review summaries. The platform is also introducing a live chat tool and offering payments for user-submitted photos.
The AI tools can generate descriptions for menu items and summarize customer reviews, quickly highlighting feedback on areas needing improvement. Uber Eats is also using AI to “detect and enhance low-quality food images” on menus. This includes adjustments to lighting, resolution, and framing, or editing food onto different plates or backgrounds. The provided examples suggest the feature may also use generative AI to alter the food itself, such as expanding it or filling gaps during digital re-plating.
For menu items lacking images, Uber Eats now allows customers to upload their own order photographs when leaving a review. This feature is launching globally. Customers in the US, UK, Canada, and Mexico may receive in-app credits if their photos are published.
Additionally, Uber Eats is introducing a Live Order Chat feature, enabling businesses to contact customers directly to resolve order issues before dispatch. Merchants can initiate real-time dialog to clarify special requests, check dietary or allergy requirements, or discuss alternatives for out-of-stock items.
The user-uploaded images and Live Order Chat features could offer customers a clearer expectation of their orders. However, the reliability of AI-generated and manipulated content remains to be seen once these tools are implemented on menus.
