Auckland, New Zealand -⁣ Butter chicken with garlic naan has been crowned⁣ New Zealand’s​ favorite Uber Eats ⁣pairing of 2024, according to newly ‌released data from the food delivery ​app. The reveal offers a engaging ‌snapshot‌ of Kiwi eating habits throughout ​the year, highlighting both popular choices and some truly unique orders.

Uber‌ Eats New Zealand data shows ⁢the⁢ platform⁤ generated⁤ approximately $120 million in extra revenue⁢ for local merchants in 2024, with 70% of users reporting they discovered‌ new restaurants through the app. Kiwis demonstrated a penchant for customization, with ⁣salt being the most requested add-on, followed by cheeseburgers and ⁢pickles.

Beyond the everyday favourites, some​ customers made remarkably unusual orders. One individual ordered 51 bananas in a single transaction,⁤ while another placed 25​ orders ‍in a single day,⁣ totaling nearly $2100. A especially loyal customer placed over 1200‍ orders throughout the year – averaging more than three per day -⁢ with assorted cookie pies ‍consistently topping their list.

Regional differences also⁣ emerged.‌ The North ⁣Island experienced its‍ busiest day on June 27, coinciding with cold weather in Auckland, while the South Island’s peak⁤ ordering day was October ​5, marking the end of the school‌ holidays. North Island customers also proved slightly more generous, averaging a $2.50 tip compared to $2.41 in the South Island.

The data further revealed a surge in ‌orders during major sporting events, with ⁣fried​ chicken becoming‌ the nation’s most popular meal during the Super Bowl.⁤

“The app helped to generate about $120 million ⁤in extra revenue for local merchants, and 70% of users said the platform helped them discover new restaurants,” said Andy Bowie,​ General Manager of‌ Uber Eats New ⁤Zealand.
