Qatar and egypt Facilitate Delivery of Trump’s Gaza Peace Plan to Hamas
CAIRO – Qatar and Egypt have reportedly delivered former U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza to Hamas officials, according to sources familiar with the negotiations. The plan, unveiled recently, aims to end the ongoing conflict and secure the release of all hostages.
The delivery follows statements from Hamas representatives indicating a willingness to consider a ceasefire and potential handover of weapons in exchange for a Palestinian state. hamas spokesperson Táhrir Nunu stated the group would relinquish arms upon Palestinian liberation and statehood, proposing a technocratic cabinet govern the Gaza Strip in coordination with other Palestinian factions – a structure that diverges from the stipulations of Trump’s plan.
International reception to the plan has been mixed. Italy and France have welcomed the initiative, with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, slated to be a member of the oversight board, calling it the “best chance of peace.” French President Emmanuel macron, writng on X (formerly Twitter), welcomed Trump’s commitment to ending the war and securing hostage releases, urging “decisive involvement” from Israel and immediate action from Hamas. He stated, “Hamas has no choice but to release the hostage and follow Trump’s plan.” Blair described the plan as “courageous and bright,” emphasizing its potential to end the two-year conflict.
The plan envisions a transitional government in Gaza composed of Palestinian technocrats and non-political figures, overseen by a Peace Council led by Trump, with Blair as a potential member.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad has strongly condemned the plan, labeling it a “recipe for continuing aggression against Palestinians.” However, the Palestinian self-government has expressed a willingness to engage constructively with Trump’s efforts to end the war in Gaza.
The growth comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire and address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
