WASHINGTON – Former President Donald Trump on Friday called for Microsoft to terminate Lisa O. Monaco, a global affairs head at the company who previously served as U.S. Deputy Attorney General under the Biden management. The demand, posted on Trump’s Truth Social account, wich has 10 million followers, came a day after former FBI director James Comey was indicted following Trump’s calls for his prosecution.
Trump asserted, “She is a menace to U.S. National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government.” He further claimed, ”Because of Monaco’s many wrongful acts, the U.S. Government recently stripped her of all Security Clearances, took away all of her access to National Security Intelligence, and banned her from all Federal Properties.” These claims have not been independently verified.
Microsoft declined to comment on Trump’s request.
Monaco joined Microsoft in July, according to her LinkedIn profile. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Attorney General, overseeing the Department of Justice’s antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment announced May 23, 2024.
The call for Monaco’s firing follows recent actions by Microsoft, including a decision on Thursday to cut off cloud-based storage and artificial intelligence subscriptions to a unit of the Israeli military after investigating claims of a system used to track Palestinians’ phone calls. Earlier this month,Microsoft agreed to offer $3.1 billion in savings on cloud services for U.S.government agencies. Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure and productivity software are utilized by various parts of the U.S. government.
Trump is scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, according to NBC News. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently attended a dinner with other technology executives at the White House earlier this month.
