Trump Announces Progress Toward Iran War ‘Resolution’ After Threat of Strikes

March 23, 2026 Julia Evans – Entertainment Editor Entertainment

President Donald Trump announced a five-day postponement of potential military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure early Monday morning, following what he described as “very good and productive conversations” with Iranian officials. The announcement, made via a post on Truth Social, comes after a period of escalating tensions and a direct threat from Iran regarding potential attacks on Israeli and U.S. Facilities in the Gulf region.

“I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST,” Trump wrote. He further stated he had instructed the Department of War to delay any military action, contingent on the continued success of ongoing meetings and discussions.

The move represents a significant shift in tone from Trump’s previous rhetoric, which included a 48-hour ultimatum issued Saturday demanding Iran fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face strikes on its power plants, starting with the largest, as reported by Fox News. Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil supplies, has been limited since early March, coinciding with the start of the conflict.

Iran’s response to Trump’s initial threat included a warning of potential attacks on Israel’s power plants and those supporting U.S. Bases in the Gulf, according to sources familiar with the situation. The United Arab Emirates reported its air defenses were intercepting incoming Iranian fire on Monday afternoon, indicating continued regional instability despite the ongoing talks.

Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation are underway, with Turkish involvement as an intermediary. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi acknowledged a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, on Monday. Turkey has previously played a mediating role between Tehran and Washington.

The conflict’s potential global impact is also drawing concern from other nations. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, speaking in Parliament on Monday, drew parallels between the current crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasizing the require for preparedness. Modi stated India’s power plants have sufficient coal reserves and that power supply systems are being closely monitored as summer demand increases. He also affirmed adequate fertilizer stocks, highlighting the potential for broader economic disruption. “This war is not in the interest of humanity,” Modi said, adding that India is encouraging all parties to seek a peaceful resolution.

Prior to Trump’s announcement, tensions were further heightened by reports of Russian assistance to Iran in targeting U.S. Assets, including warships and aircraft. Trump dismissed these reports as a “stupid question” during a press event Friday, according to the Independent, even as his administration has generally declined to comment on the intelligence assessments. The president also reportedly walked out of a Fox News interview Friday after being pressed on the duration of the war with Iran, according to MSN.

The U.S. Military has maintained a posture of readiness throughout the crisis. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated U.S. Forces are “tracking everything” related to intelligence threats, according to reports. Earlier, Trump had criticized NATO for a perceived lack of support in securing the Strait of Hormuz, stating the alliance hadn’t demonstrated “the courage” to assist.
